WASTE NOT/Star is a program designed to meet a statewide demand for exchanged, loaned and recycled assistive technology. The program also addresses scarce funding by utilizing the potential residual value of abandoned and surplus equipment. This program relies solely on the community donating used equipment.
Assistive Technology is just another name for the tools people use to increase their independence and enjoyment of life.
The program is a FREE public service to aid persons with disabilities, parents, families, and professionals in locating recycled assistive technology. The program maintains a listing of used equipment available for use by those with special needs.
In some cases, it is possible for the WASTE NOT program to pay for repairs to equipment that a family already owns, i. e. getting a malfunctioning power wheelchair to run again.
WASTE NOT helps users in two different ways. The program provides a source by which an individual can donate assistive technology equipment that has been outgrown or is no longer needed. The program may also provide a resource for individuals to acquire assistive technology equipment they would not otherwise be able to afford.
Any assistive device that assists a person with a disability. The WASTE NOT program will encompass equipment for persons with disabilities of all ages, including communication devices, wheelchairs, vans with lifts, hand controls, computers, TTD's, etc.
