Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker or Licensed Professional Counselor
Summary: Primary duties of position is to provide behavioral health consultation, individual counseling, and/or group counseling to individuals with differing abilities across the lifespan, siblings, adolescents, adults, caregivers and client families in order to improve psychosocial functioning. Additional duties include community education and outreach, support group activities, client wellness calls, grant management duties, and behavioral health supports for the professionals serving target populations.
Responsibilities include the following:
- Provide comprehensive assessments of behavioral health clients and referrals.
- Provide effective treatment plans and assist clients in successfully achieving goals.
- Conduct individual, family and group therapy sessions according to treatment plan.
- Evaluate crisis situations and apply appropriate interventions as needed and/or required.
- Assist in the detection of “at risk” clients and development of plans to prevent further psychological or physical decline.
- Act as a client advocate to coordinate required services or to resolve emergency problems in crisis situations.
- When necessary, refer to external specialists or community resources to assist client in treatment options.
- Actively participate in meetings and collaborations with appropriate internal UCP Huntsville staff regarding client progress.
- Provide timely documentation of client encounters within client records system.
- Provide billing documentation and grant reporting requirements in a timely and accurate manner while maintaining client confidentiality.
- Teach or assist, as appropriate, family members and/or professional staff in understanding, interacting with or supporting clients.
- Facilitate and/or assist support group meetings and client engagement events.
- Oversee UCP Huntsville’s behavioral health program, identifying problems related to client services and making recommendations for improvement.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Education/Experience: Master’s Degree in social work, psychology, counseling or related field
Certificates and Licenses: Licensed in the State of Alabama as a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker (LICSW) or Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC)
Computer Skills: To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Word Processing and Excel software.
Requirements:
- Excellent working knowledge of behavioral medicine, DSM and evidence-based treatments for medical and mental health conditions.
- Ability to work through brief client contacts, group facilitation, 60-minute therapeutic counseling sessions as well as make quick and accurate clinical assessments of mental and behavioral conditions.
- Ability to adjust to the pace of a dynamic non-profit environment, work within an interdisciplinary team, and work independently with minimal oversight.
- Ability to demonstrate strong organizational, communication and documentation skills.
- Good knowledge of psycho-pharmacology and community resources.
- Maintains Alabama LICSW or LPC license in good standing and professional liability insurance at the employee’s expense.
- Active participation in continuing education and informal learning opportunities to better understand the needs and concerns of individuals with differing abilities, their family members and the professionals who serve them.
- Access to reliable transportation and valid driver’s license for travel to home visits and community engagements.
- Submits to necessary background checks, peer reviews by collaborative partner WellStone, and validation of annual certification and insurance requirements.
- Applied Behavioral Analysis Certification, knowledge of disability population and needs, and prior counseling experience preferred.

Speech-Language Pathologist (Full/Part Time or PRN)
UCP Huntsville is accepting resumes for a Speech-Language Pathologist to perform Early Intervention home/daycare visits and outpatient therapy in Huntsville clinic. Pediatric experience required. Position requires travel throughout Madison County. Must hold a Master’s degree in Speech-Language Pathology or Communication Disorders, current state license, and ASHA certification.
